Your First Visit
This is a one-hour in-depth virtual consultation where your naturopathic doctor will review your health history and discuss your current health concerns. This is where you will outline your health goals together.
There may be some labs that your ND will recommend for you that could be helpful in gathering a complete picture of your health. See some examples of labs we run here.
After your initial visit, you will schedule your physical exam if needed, and your ND will get to work creating your Ember Health Plan.
The Disclosure Visit
In this consultation, your ND will present your Ember Health Plan to you.
These are shorter consultations where you and your ND check in and discuss your progress, and pivot where you need to.
Your doctor will use the Ember Approach and focus on 4 pillars of healing: Gut & Detox, Blood Sugar & Insulin, Stress & Metabolism, and Hormone Harmony.

The Ember Approach Advanced
Using your genetic raw data, your naturopathic doctor can generate a report using the GeneRx algorithm and customize your treatment plan even further.
Find out how YOU specifically respond to carbohydrates, fat, and protein, how you should be exercising for maximum results, how well you detoxify, what nutrients you should include or avoid, and much more!
This is of great use at the start of your care but can be added at any point, especially if you are struggling with a plateau in your progress.
How does virtual medicine work? How do I attend my appointments?
All visits will ideally be conducted via video consult using a secure, easy-to-use telemedicine platform, but can also be done via phone call if needed (such as in the case of a poor internet connection). Instructions to join your online appointment will be provided at the time of booking.
Supplements will be prescribed through an online dispensary, but you always have the option to shop wherever you like.
For lab tests, your doctor will either upload requisitions to your patient portal, which you can then print off and take to the lab, or, some test kits can be drop-shipped to your house.
How do the physical exams work?
In-person physical exams may be recommended periodically. The frequency of physical exams will be individual to every patient, depending on their concerns. The first physical exam is usually recommended as close to the initial visit as possible, so that the information gathered can be applied to the disclosure visit.

What are your fees?
Naturopathic Medicine
Initial Naturopathic Visit (1 hour): $275
Review your health concerns and get started on your health journey.
Disclosure Visit (45 minutes): $195
Review lab testing if applicable and receive your comprehensive health plan. Usually booked about 4-8 weeks after the initial visit.
Strategy Visit (30 minutes): $125
Follow up on how your plan is going and make adjustments as needed. Frequency of strategy visits is based on your individual health concerns. Visits are usually more frequent at the start of care.
Lab Testing Fees:
Lab testing fees are quite variable, from a simple blood work marker at $10 to a comprehensive functional lab test at $1000.
We cannot predict what lab tests will be recommended until after your initial visit, but if initial blood work is recommended, it often lands around $200-$500, and sometimes other functional testing is recommended. You can always choose to forgo or postpone labs, or request them from your medical doctor, if they are available.
Lab testing is sometimes covered under insurance- check with your provider.
Holistic Nutrition (Registered Dietician)
Initial Nutrition Assessment and Customized Plan (90 minutes): $185
Review your health concerns and receive your customized nutrition plan.
Follow-up Nutrition Session (60 minutes): $145
Follow up appointment to track progress and update nutrition goals/plan.
What kind of treatments do naturopathic doctors use?
At Ember, we use diet and lifestyle counselling, herbal medicine, and nutraceuticals to help patients achieve their health goals. We are unable to prescribe pharmaceutical medication including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
I don’t live in Alberta. Can I still see an Ember ND?
Ember Naturopathic is providing care only to Alberta residents at this time. Additionally, due to the potential need for an in-person physical exam, it is recommended that patients be able to travel to their respective doctor’s physical exam space as needed. Therefore, we recommend only Calgary/Okotoks and area residents initiate care with Ember Naturopathic. Some exceptions apply- feel free to reach out to us to find out if an Ember ND may be able to see you.
Is this covered under extended insurance (visits, labs, supplements)?
If you have naturopathic medicine included under your extended insurance, then typically at least some portion of your visits will be covered, and sometimes lab testing is covered as well, but usually not supplements. Health spending accounts may also be used for naturopathic medicine.
Do you do direct billing?
At this time, we do not provide direct billing. You will be provided with a detailed receipt after your visit which you can submit.
